Join Patty MacRae for a new Vajra Yoga series: Lunar Yoga Nidra. Every full and new moon, Vajra Yoga will offer a yoga nidra practice to work with lunar energy.

Yoga Nidra is a space of supreme meditation that accesses the ability to let go, alchemize, and heal. Deeply relax the body and mind, clearing out old perceptions and self-limitations while purifying the energy body of unconscious blocks. The full moon energy lends extra charge to the potential of this profound practice. Prepare to transform. No experience needed.

Please see the following guidance for practice:

You will be guided into yogic sleep as you lie down comfortably and slip into a sleep-like state of the body while your mind stays awake. This state is a fertile ground for setting sankalpa (spiritually guided intention) and clearing out old templates of belief, unseen patterns, and even karma while providing a place of deep renewal on physical, emotional, and energetic levels.

A few things to note:

  • You can use your bed, couch, the floor with cushions, or anywhere that is comfortable for you where you won't be disturbed and you feel privacy and safety. Please have any props you need already set up before we begin. If you'd like, you can even do this practice sitting comfortably in a chair.
  • Try to stay away from too many pillows under your head. You don't want your forehead to be higher than your chin. A thin pillow is best.
  • If you feel very tired, the chances are good that you will fall asleep. You can bend your arm at the elbow and hold your forearm in the air if you are tired. As you are guided into relaxation, your arm will fall if you get too close to sleep and bring you back. It's a great trick.
  • You may use a light scarf to cover your eyes, but a weighted eye pillow is too heavy, and it's not good for your ocular nerves to have weight on your eyes for that long.
  • It has been said that 45 minutes of yoga nidra practice is equal to 3 hours of sleep!
  • Make sure you will be warm enough. Better to be too warm than too cool for this practice. You may cool down as class goes on, so it's best to start with a blanket, even if you aren’t cold.
  • Use the restroom before class.
  • Don't eat right before class, but also don't be hungry.

TEACHER BIO

Patty MacRae (E-RYT 500) has been practicing yoga since 1998. She completed her YA 200-hour TT with Val Schneiderman at the Yoga Shala of Ridgefield, CT. After some years of teaching and founding a seasonal yoga school in Maine, Patty completed her 300-hour Vajra Yoga certification under the guidance of Michele Loew and Tenzin Robert Thurman through Tibet House US. During that time, Patty also completed 200+ hours of Yoga Nidra teacher training with Michele Loew.

While undergoing the Vajra Yoga program, Patty simultaneously completed a Master’s degree from CIHS in Integral Noetic Sciences with a concentration in Dreamwork and Anomalous Experiences. She wrote a thesis exploring the intersections of dreams, contact phenomena, and altered states of consciousness.

In addition to teaching yoga, Patty works to support private clients through transformative experiences and anomalous phenomena, offering a bridge between ancient somatic practices and modern consciousness studies through lenses including dreamwork, tarot, astrology, journaling, art, and Jungian psychology.

Patty's teaching style seeks to guide each student to their inner knowing of the multidimensionality of their existence and their authentic Self. This gnosis comes from practices that attend to the physical and subtle bodies, using asana, meditation, pranayama, mantra, visualization, and stillness. Her classes are deeply influenced by the discipline of the Ashtanga Vinyasa tradition and the profound wisdom of Vajra Yoga and Tibetan Medicine.
