Join us for a weekend urban retreat to experience ways to awaken the heart with Venerable Losang Gendun. We all wish to be happy, but life doesn’t always cooperate. One reaction to suffering can be to withdraw and harden the heart. While that seems logical, it only compounds the problem.

The Tibetan tradition of Mind Training (lojong) has refined strategies to identify the source of our problems and to employ strategies to transform our struggles and hurts into inner strength, through the cultivation of unconditional care and wisdom. Wisdom heals the mind and compassion heals our hearts.

Come prepared to contemplate, meditate, and discuss these big problems and some practical solutions. Venerable Gendun has practiced and taught these methods for decades. Whether you are new to Buddhism or are looking to deepen existing practice, you will gain practical tools for understanding how things exist and how to awaken your heart. Those insights can provide the means to transform your relationship with anxiety, attachment, and the solidity we project onto experience. In short, not to close but to awaken the heart.

*Saturday Morning Session: 9:30am–12:00pm: Awakening the Heart retreat participants are invited to join the live teaching Ven Gendun will offer on Saturday Morning at Tibet House, as part of the on-going, four-year long course, “In-Depth Meditation Training (IDMT).”  This section of the course addresses topics such as the empty nature of mind, and approaches to transforming ordinary perception into pure view. The session includes a meditation session followed by a teaching, all in service of helping to realize the nature of emptiness and the luminous potential that resides within every living being.
