“In a world where nothing lasts forever, how do we live?” Ann Tashi Slater asks in the first chapter of her new book, Traveling Through the Bardo: The Art of Living in an Impermanent World. Reflecting on personal experience, Buddhist wisdom, and her Tibetan-American heritage, Slater contextualizes the teachings of the bardo, the state between death and rebirth, and helps us consider how these traditional teachings can help us live fuller, happier lives. The bardo also represents the transitory nature of life between birth and death, after all, and the wisdom therein encourages us to embrace and find deeper meaning in the face of inevitable change.
