Green Tara, 18th century painting tangka (religious painting) represents the benevolent bodhisattva Green Tara. She holds the stems of lotus petals in each hand and wears a multi-colored dhoti and a flowing orange scarf. Tara, whose name means "star" or "she who ferries across,"is one of the most popular female Bodhisattvas. The Green Tara represents compassion in action. The practice of Green Tara helps to overcome fear and anxiety. It is also believed that she can grant wishes, eliminate suffering of all kinds and bring happiness.
