Tibet House US is delighted and honored to host an evening with H.E. Khangser Rinpoche, a very learned, upstanding, and accomplished Buddhist teacher.  Rinpoche will be speaking on a topic frequently recommended by HHDL: the 4 Immeasurables, which are 4 distinct virtuous mindsets cultivated by practitioners traveling the Bodhisattvas' paths to enlightenment.  In particular, Rinpoche will give special focus to the cultivation of "Sympathetic Joy," a kind of perfection of our ability and capacity to be naturally happy for the success, happiness, and virtue of others.  Rinpoche's teaching will be followed by a Q&A.

Khangser Rinpoche was born in Kathmandu, Nepal to a Himalayan family with lineage in both the Nyngma and Gelugpa traditions. At the age of 5, he was recognized as the reincarnation of the Seventh Khangser Rinpoche, one of three high lamas who identified His Holiness, The Fourteenth Dalai Lama. As a highly revered eighth incarnated lama, he has spent most of his existence in spiritual training.

Rinpoche began his studies of Buddhist philosophy at the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics, Dharamsala. He then completed a Master's of Buddhist Studies in Sutra and Tantra at the prestigious Sera Jey Monastery, where he later served as a spiritual teacher. He graduated with the highest honors from Karnataka and Gyuto Tantric Monastic University in India receiving a Geshe Lharampa (equivalent to a Ph.D.). 

Additionally, he directly received a wealth of teachings from many great Tibetan yogis and spiritual teachers, which include His Holiness, the Dalai Lama. Rinpoche has been recognized for his skill in the art of philosophical debate and has a gift for keeping his speech in line with a modern worldview. 

Khangser Rinpoche's aspirations manifested the foundation of the Dipkar Vajrayana Institute and Thangkar Dechen Choeling Monastic Institute. Motivated after seeing the poverty in his home country, Rinpoche sought to establish Thankar Monastery to provide a home to the underprivileged and orphaned children in Nepal. Through his efforts at the Dipkar Vajrayana Institute, Khangser Rinpoche also established the Dipkar Food for the Poor which feeds hundreds of meals in Vietnam and Mongolia. Rinpoche's diligent efforts not only provide meals for the hungry, but also allows the opportunity for Dipkar volunteers to accumulate merit through service. Since 2023, Khangser Rinpoche has ascended his new position of Vice Abbot at Gyuto Monastery. After three years in his position as Vice-Abbot, Khangser Rinpoche will then ascend to the position of Abbot of the Gyuto Monastery as the designated Successor of the Head Superintendent of the Gelug Tradition-also known as the 'Yellow Hat' School-in Tibetan Buddhism, therein becoming the leader to millions of adherents to the tradition around the world.
