Making it to Tabo: High Altitude Photography and more with Peter van Ham and representatives from PHASE ONE,

Join us for an afternoon discussion with representatives from PHASE ONE, a global leader in high-resolution digital imaging technology.  Photographing Our dedication to exceptional imaging quality extends across diverse applications, from professional photography to cultural heritage digitization, industrial inspections, aerial mapping, security, and space.  For more than three decades, Phase One has developed core imaging technologies and a range of digital cameras and imaging modules, setting new standards for image quality in terms of high resolution, dynamic range, color fidelity, and geometric accuracy.

Equipped with the latest state-of-the-art technology, Peter van Ham's voyage to Tabo enabled him to capture high-resolution documentation of the temple's exquisite iconography, shedding light on the enduring connection between the cultures of India and Tibet. Tabo Monastery houses a vast and invaluable collection of thangkas (scroll paintings), manuscripts, well-preserved statues, frescoes, and extensive murals that adorn nearly every wall.

In the earlier period, the paintings within the main temple and its stupas reflected the Nyingmapa, Kadampa, and Sakyapa traditions. In later periods, the artwork transitioned to depict the Gelugpa tradition, illustrating the monastery's evolving spiritual influences over time. Many of the small independent chambers of the monastery feature intricate wall paintings, while the frescoes inside the gompa remain in a delicate and fragile state, emphasizing the need for continued preservation efforts.
